Lost & Found

Not everyone who was found was lost before.

Others were lost long before they even knew it and didn't want to be reached.

But there is another kind. Those who keep losing themselves deliberately, again and again, because they have learned that something true only surfaces in undoing.

There is a specific kind of courage in choosing to dissolve. Not the courage of facing danger, but the quieter, stranger courage of letting go of the shape you've been holding - the version of yourself that others recognize, that you have learned to perform without thinking. When you lose that, even briefly, something underneath becomes visible. Not always beautiful. Not always welcome. But real in a way that nothing performed ever is.

Getting lost on purpose is not the same as being careless. It requires more control than staying found - you have to trust that you will recognize yourself again on the other side, even if what comes back is not quite the same shape as what went under. Some people return softer. Some return sharper. All of them return changed. This painting does not tell you which kind of lost this was. It only shows you the moment between going under and coming back. What you read into it is yours.

This painting was made from that place. The body did not illustrate the concept. It lived it.
